OK so one thing about working in Korea that seems to be pretty epidemic among foreigner teachers is that you NEVER GET TOLD ABOUT ANYTHING IN ADVANCE.
I come in to work and my big boss is like, “Why aren’t you at the field trip?”
“What field trip?????”
“What, kindergarten boss didn’t text you?”
Hilarious and true. Another example of this: I worked at a three-week “winter camp” in Korea and all the English teachers had been looking forward to this field trip that was planned at the start of camp. We needed the down time, the time away from the classrooms. When we got to school that morning, our bosses told us that the field trip had been postponed because they forgot to set it up. Everyone else already knew, including our assistants and the kids. We had to pull lesson plans for the day out of our asses. Also, our textbooks for the 3-week winter camp were not ordered until the second week. Just teach, they said.
Still, I would go back to that place in a heartbeat.
